Bill Maher and Sharon Osbourne Want us to Know That They do Not Need to be “Re-educated”

Bill Maher’s HBO series Real Time with Bill Maher has become a safe haven for rich White morons to twist narratives and be placated by a man who really knows nothing but talks in such a bold, confident, and condescending way, that it is easy to believe that he knows everything. Let’s take the Friday, April 16th edition of Real Time where he had Sharon Osbourne as a guest.

From the moment Osbourne walked on stage, anyone who regularly follows Bill Maher, knew that this would be an interview where not only would Osbourne double and triple down on why she “wasn’t a racist” and insinuate that she did nothing wrong, but Maher would actually offer her an assist on her problematic stances.

So full disclosure from me, I originally did not have a problem with Osbourne defending her equally problematic friend, Piers Morgan. As someone who lectures on the First Amendment regularly, I always reinforce to my students that they do not have to like someone’s different beliefs. I also tell them that if someone’s beliefs are racist and toxic, they do not have to even respect their beliefs (anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar).

However, what we all have to respect is a person’s right TO HAVE their toxic beliefs. We do not have to love them or even like them but as long as they are not doing physical harm to people, we have to understand that the First Amendment gives them the right to their beliefs, no matter how twisted those beliefs are.

Where Bill Maher and Sharon Osbourne lose me is when they twist the narrative of why people have a problem with what Sharon did. I was way more offended at her popping off on Sheryl Underwood and scolding her like she was a wayward, teenage child, than I was by her defending her disgusting friend, Piers Morgan.

Anecdotally speaking, most of the Black people I talked to had no problem with Osbourne “defending her friend”. Their problem was with Osbourne DEMANDING that Underwood teach her about racism and essentially disregarding her feelings. It should also be noted that Maher hates the word “feelings” and thinks it is a weapon of woke culture.

Maher’s exact words in his interview with Osbourne were “I’m sorry, I’m 65, you’re 68, I know who I am, I don’t need re-education,”.

Bill Maher claims to be a free speech advocate when he really is an anti-accountability advocate. He wants all the perks of free speech without ever having to escape his comfort zone. Maher wants to be able to hobnob with all his celebrity friends, while at the same time looking down on them like he is the smartest guy in the room.

Bill Maher, doesn’t need a re-education. He needs a basic education and here lies the problem with Maher and the like. Too many of these rich white elitists, who have made it far in life, thinks education stops once you become rich and powerful and it does not. The evolution of human thought is what has brought us from Blacks being considered only being 3/5th’s a person, to Jim Crow era segregation, to where we are today.

Bill Maher has symbiotic relationships with dunderheads. From Megyn Kelly to Sharon Osbourne, the formula never waivers. Sharon Osbourne went on Real Time to reinforce the fact that she does not give a damn and what better place to do this than on a show with a liberal elitist who talks down to the very people that are calling her out for her behavior. No mention of the Black woman that she disrespected. No realistic conversation about any of her possible toxic behavior. Just a placation vacation from a faux liberal man who assists with this type of behavior so well, that he’d give John Stockton a run for his money.
